HAPPY BIRTHDAY... TO OURSELVES!

De Dutch Dares zijn 1 jaar geleden enthousiast begonnen en daarom hebben

we voor deze Dutch Dare het thema 1 jaar gekozen. Zoals jullie weten houden

wij wel van een beetje uitdaging dus denk eens verder dan een 1e verjaardag!

Want er zijn meer mijlpalen die hier superleuk bij zouden passen zoals 1 jaar gestopt

met roken of 1 jaar getrouwd, gebeurtenissen gedurende 1 jaar, verbouwing die 1 jaar

duurt, een speciale gebeurtenis van 1 jaar geleden, waar was jij 1 jaar geleden,

of wees creatief met het getal 1....etc! Doe mee, laat het zien, deel het, verwerk het,

laat je inspiratie tot uiting komen in een layout of ander scrap project en laat het ons weten via een comment ......

Omdat het onze verjaardag is, zijn er met deze dare super prijzen te winnen voor

originele inzendingen !

The Dutch Dares started 1 year ago this month and because of this with we have

chosen the theme 1 year for this Dutch Dare. As you know we like a bit of a challenge

so we want you to think beyond the 1st birthday ! Because there are more milestones

that would fit this dare like a glove like quiting smoking for 1 year, a renovation that lasts

1 year, a special event 1 year ago, where were you 1 year ago, be creative with the number 1… etc! Join in and show us, share with us, work it and let your creativity show in a layout or another project and let us know what you’ve made.

And because it’s our birthday there are some super prizes to be won for original entries !

So here he is in one of my Ikea boxes (to stash scrapbookstuff) playing a hide & seek game with me!

When looking at photo’s it had occurred to me that Colin usually has the same great big smile, rarely does he look sad on a Photo and never for long. So when looking for photo’s to use for this dare 8 photos (yes I cheated again ;) …) with a great big smile were easily found.

Materials used : Scenic Route Kraft, AC Thickers Daquirie, Uni Posca Pen.

I used photo's that i made for Revlie's "scrap the 2nd of february"-challenge 8 months ago.... I wanted to do it then, but my grandmother died at that time and i couldn't make it. So now i did, just an everyday-day, with the everyday stuff LOL, nothing's changed haha. Having breakfast with my boy (catching his actually, see the bread on his chin... ;), play, groceryshopping etc, read some blogs when he takes a nap...,make milk, drink coffee, do laundry and DH brought home flowers that day! (That was a not-so-every-day-item ;)

used materials: Sandylion pp, chipboard accents by Ki, 7 Gypsies stamp, flowerfeltmat Xenos, ribbon and clear buttons, BG border, AC thickers and Autumn leaves stamp.

This was a real challenge for me, the last year I mostly make one picture lo's, ok, two would be fine too, but NINE pictures....
I came up with the idea to make a kind of overview of all the funny pictures I have of DD (there are quit a few). I selected the most funny pictures of last year and used my circle punch on them.
Then I layered them on a piece of plastic which reminded me of snakeskin (took it of a crate of oranges at work) used some basic grey paper as a background, a little piece of hambly to put my title on, and dymo tape for the journaling.
Last but not least added some embellishments (paperfrills and a Hambly rubon) and some gaffer tape.

De vorige dare ging over werk... en deze week heeft ons eigen dt-lid Natasja een dare bedacht en ons pas echt aan het werk gezet!! NEGEN foto's!! Gebruik minimaal negen foto's op je layout!! Dare # 24

Aan het werk!


Maak een LO of een project over "werk". Denk aan je werkplek, beroep, uniformen, waar werk je?, bedrijf/merk, hoe reis je naar je werk, bedrijfsuitje, op reis voor je werk, ben je een thuiswerkende mama, ben je een scrap- prof, speel je een rol, je vorige baantje, vakantie werk uit de oude doos, werk van je man, op zoek naar de juiste balans, heb je een droombaan, fantasie van je kind over als ik later groot ben word ik...... etc, etc.


Jawel, we zijn druk aan het werk! Dus het is de moeite waard om regelmatig een bezoekje te brengen aan de Dutch Dares!



PS: binnenkort zijn we jarig!

Fun with chipboard ;)

Hi! As said we are posting more frequently on the Dutch Dares blog. Today i thought it was fun to share a little project i made. I LOVE chipboard. And manufacturers design the COOLEST chipboard elements these days, which are hard to resist... I never let ANY piece of chipboard go to waste, so when i bought a 6x9 photo-album by Making Memories i was even more happy when i opened it... cuz there was the cutest piece of chipboard (to protect the album) inside!! And i started playing with it ;)




i took it apart

dressed up the outside with BG 's Blush
dressed up the inside too
stamped the words "Imagine" and "Thanks" then sprinkled UTEE over it and heated it with a heatgun. Inked all the edges i could discover with brown ink.
painted the side, dressed up the other small side
glued the side back into the box
and embellished the front with felt&knitted flower, ribbon, rubon, letterstickers, brad and bling.
made a little magnetic closure
and added my wishes into my little box of wishes, which i did not take a photo of... as they are secret...:)

Here's my list of supplies used: Chipboard portector inside MM 6x9 album, BG Blush and Phoebe, BG magnetic closure, covered by a little chipboard Elsie-cloud, Versamark clear ink, Ranger brown ink, aqua blue UTEE by Blonde Moments, Cherry Arte rubon, felt and knitted flower, brad, ribbon, buttons, bling, Uniball Signo white pen, (letters "My little box of" is font Jinky that i cut out with the Quickutz Silhouette) and one of my ultimate favorites: THICKERS!

The "Hello" story...

I've read this dutch book "Het zijn net mensen" by Joris Luyendijk. He writes about the gap between his experiences as a correspondent in the Middle-East and what was shown in the media. The confronting reality and also the humor are an eyeopener! "Hello Everybody!" is a repeatedly pronouncement in the book which underlines the meaning of it. In my opinion the topic is a very striking one right now!

Used materials: raven black cardstock, the title is simply printed (Word), American Crafts Thickers and strip of patterned paper Metropolitan (American Crafts too). Thanks for checking out! Angelique

The story behind "our own dictionary"

Because a lot of people that are guest in our home sometimes turn into a big questionmark when we use certain words that are completely normal to us and complete nonsense to them LOL, i made a dictionary, beginners guide that is ;) for them. I won't begin to try to translate, because that would end up in even more questionmarks of the readers of this blog hehe. If you wanna see what's inside the album click here.

We thought it would be fun to post more frequent on this blog, so keep an eye out for occasional updates with techniques or other projects we think is fun to share with you!

the story behind the little prince who was born

We discovered a lovely book at the library to read for our oldest son, a book about a favorite book. And since we were in the market for a new baby anouncement I was thrilled that we could use the illustrations for not only our baby anouncement but also for his babyroom. So when we were dared the subject for this lo was easily found. I used Autumn Leaves paper & stamp, Scenic Route Kraft (flipside), MM cheecky shimmers alfabet and blingstickers.

About my take at this dare...

This came easy to me... Love, love, love Mandy's bag. It kind of represents everything I like in design at this moment. It has gorgeous colours, straight lines, and a lot of swirls and flourishes.

The colours inspired me most of all, and so did the shine this cute bag has (I used paperglaze at the swirls and big dots). While going to my pile of patterned papers I came across this beautiful paper by Tinkering Ink along with the bazzill background it perfectly matched my photo. Swirls are by Fancy pants, tittle lettering is new Basic Grey, coloured black to match my lo. Thanks for visiting! Regards, Mirjam

Story behind "Let it be"

About one year ago i did a fun workshop by Elsie Flannigan. An 8x8 songbook, layouts inspired by songs. I finished 1 out of the 20 pages during that workshop ;) So one year later i'm still going... Every now and then i grasp te opportunity to make one more. This time it is "Let it be" with pics from loooong ago... I did a study that was so much fun, it included creative subjects like drawing, crafts, music and theatre. For the musiclesson we all chose to play an instrument (me on guitar LOL) and perform a song. You got bonus study-points if you gave it a little extra. Extra study-points rock. Cuz that meant the opportunity to be a little more lazy on subjects that were less interesting ;) So we did the full thing, dress up and all, who cares if you look stupid right? The pics were actually of very poor quality, so i've had them on a stack for...um...12 years. Scrapping them on 8x8 meant i could crop a whole lot out of the photo's hehe. Supplies are: PC paper, paintdabber, AC thickers, flowers: prima, Sue Dreamer and Blokker, Posca paintpen. Hambly rub-on. Printed the journaling on PC ribbon. Er is zoveel inspiratie om ons heen te vinden! Mandy kocht deze tas omdat ze er helemaal blij van werd toen ze hem zag (ok en hij kostte maar 3 euro nog wat ;). We dagen je uit om deze tas te gebruiken als inspiratie voor een layout of project…op welke manier dan ook! Als je niet zoveel met de kleuren hebt, dan kun je je laten inspireren door de vormen erop, of het patroon/design. Veel plezier! We kijken uit naar je creatie! There is so much inspiration to be found everywhere around us! Mandy bought this bag because it made her happy just looking at it! Unexpected fabric!

Lovely idea the fabric dare! But I had no inspiration... It didn't work out... But unexpected I had an idea this morning so I decided to post it an hour after I've finished it!

This photo was taken last holiday in June. We visited an oldtimer tractor show and Arvid had a blast! He loves vehicles and especially the wheels. I used a square piece of fabric, ribbon and CherryArte chipboard and 7Gypsies stamps (my favorites!) Tomorrow next Dare will be online!

My little story behind...

First of all, I love printing on fabric. Not every picture, but specially older ones, and I found this. My husband with his two sisters (1973). Not a picture with lots of technique, difficult poses or with the idea "this one has to be scrapped"...But this picture brings back memories of long time ago. The "klapstoeltje" (chair) with the pattern of the "fabeltjeskrant" and did you recognize the leather "poef"... I bet you did...











My MIL gave me a lot of years ago these lovely things and you can find it on the walls in our house...





I love it... brings back memories.











...so here it is, my take on the dare, the circles made of leather and felt and of course I used hambly...

...and please, don't throw little precious things too fast away!!!

the story behind 'friendship blanket'

Our twin friends (and also masters of ceremony at our wedding) arranged something very special to give to us on our weddingday... Before the wedding they asked our family and friends to send in a 8x8 piece of fabric that symbolises their specific relationship with us. They stitched them all to a large blanket. Along with it they made a book and on each page there was a tiny piece of fabric with a story or a sweet message for that familymember or friend. It contains the sweetest, the funniest and most heartwarming wishes and story's that will never be forgotten. It is without a doubt the most beautiful gift anybody could have given us! At the time suddenly there was the sound of the piano playing and two other friends started singing a song they had written themselves about us and the blanket, it still gives me goosebumps, so beautiful. So when Jo-Anne's fabric dare came along it was the perfect chance to scrap about this! The 30x30 background is a piece of soft suede and the chipboard letters are from Provocraft and have a velvetty kind of layer on them. Others are random pieces of fabric and the chipboard is Fancy Pants. The ribbons are by Making Memories. Thanks for reading and don't miss the next Dutch Dare on wednesday sep 12th!
