My turn!

The sun... It made me think of the elements (of life!)... Obviously the sun is related to fire. I'm convinced there's a fifth element ... Ether... A little twist of wicca is added in this layout!

Used products: Kraft cardstock, white paint, HS bling circle, my favorite 7Gypsies stamp, Elsie sticker, Gaffer tape and alphabet Thickers.

The story behind my lo...

did not come easy. I love the song by Elton John, but I never paid too much attention to the lyrics. It is quit a depressing song, and at this point in my life I can not really relate to these lyrics. So no lo about me, my daughter or anything personal this time.

A week before this dare was posted we went to the zoo in Rhenen, totally unexpected we there ran into "het berenbos" I had heard about it, but didn't know where it was. "Het Berenbos" is a project that was started to give abused and neglected bears from over the world a better life. It was so great to see them running around, rubbing their backs against trees and taking a bath in a little pond, knowing that their life's before were less from perfect (some have their teeth pulled out, their nails pulled out, never had more freedom then a meters chain they were on, and all that for entertainment of tourists in counties like Turkey and Romania for example). Thought the title "Don't let the sun go down on me" was perfect for a lo about these bears.

My recipe: BG Gypsy paper, BG letter sticker, HS chipboard and a lovely paper flower.

Memories

One of the reasons I scrapbook is because I love to preserve memories my sons will probably not remember when they are older. You see I don't, I have crates full of photo's from my childhood, perfectly dated but with so many faded memories that I wish I could remember more.....

When Dawn gave us this challenge I had absolutely no clue what my take on the dare would be, I was so fixated on the title and the meaning of the song I didn't see it. The line in the song that a friend of mine pointed out to me. And all of a sudden it was so clear what I would scrapbook about.

These pictures are of my 4th birthday, I can see we just got back from England (I know this because of an unapproved dissastrous haricut a friend of my mom had given me) but that's it ... My son asked me what I was thinking when I was blowing out the candles and I couldn't tell him because I don't know what my hopes and dreams were then. And THIS is why I scrapbook, so I can tell them when they ask this about themselves.

Materials used : PP by Daisy D, uniball signo white, mini rolodex card, heidi Swapp ghost clock, heidi swapp word, 7 Gypsies gaffer tape, Bingo card, 7 Gypsies stamp, PP Creative Imaginations.

I need a story

As said in the previous post, the week after posting all our layouts, a few of us will share a bit about the how and why of the layout. For Dawn's dare i at first started with a pic of me in the sun. And i got out some golden Hambly overlay and some papers of the new Basic Grey's infuse. And then... the supplies were staring at me for a long time and nothing happened. No aha. No inspiration. No playing with materials. I just could not come up with a 'why' for my page. No story, just fresh supplies! Then i put it all aside and started with a different photo of a sweet lady we know, that always says in dialect: "Be as a sunbeam, other people are in need of that". Not a precize translation, but you get the picture. I had been wanting to capture her and her beautiful oneliners on a page for a long long time. And then the supplies came out, paper and stickers that had been on a stack for ages!! It felt so good to finally capture this story and it also felt good to be using some supplies that were just getting old... Not a hip nor a flashy layout, but a layout that does tell a story my family will want to remember...

Supplies: Chatterbox papers and painted letterstickers, painted coasterletter by Gin-X, Hambly rubons, scalloped cardstock and chipboard swirl by Fancy Pants.

Later this week someone else will share a bit about their layout too, see you later!

Dare # 20

Here she is and we think she ROCKS our guest for this Dutch Dare ........ Dawn Inskip

I have been following the work of these girls since the beginning and joining in as and when my time allowed… this group of Darers are the best – always coming up with something ‘off-the-wall’, unique and refreshing and I love them for it, they never fail to inspire me.

So, I was honoured/touched/over-the-moon when they asked me to provide you with some inspiration and a challenge for this weeks’ Dare… I’m British, I love music – and one of my favourite artists is Elton John… a real showman, unique (and yeah, sometimes a drama queen LOL). A favourite track is “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” … and that’s my challenge – use the lyrics of this track to inspire a layout – anyhow you please – your imagination is the only limit… have fun… here’s the lyrics:

Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me (Music by Elton John, Lyrics by Bernie Taupin)

I can't light no more of your darkness
All my pictures seem to fade to black and white
I'm growing tired and time stands still before me
Frozen here on the ladder of my life

Too late to save myself from falling
I took a chance and changed your way of life
But you misread my meaning when I met you
Closed the door and left me blinded by the light

Don't let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see
I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free
But losing everything is like the sun going down on me

I can't find, oh the right romantic line
But see me once and see the way I feel
Don't discard me just because you think I mean you harm
But these cuts I have they need love to help them heal

Uiteraard kan je opnieuw meedingen naar een RAK. Laat je layout of project zien via deze LINK op 2Peas . Graag zien we het ook in een gallerij bij MemoryLane dutchdares@memorylanescrapbooking.net.

If you want to play along for a RAK, be sure that we can find your project by leaving a comment here on the blog or via this LINK on 2Peas. You can also send your project by email to dutchdares@memorylanescrapbooking.net. All the dares will then be placed in a special gallery on the Memory Lane website.

Dare # 19

"Als je haar maar goed zit"

.....doe iets scheefs op je project
.....ja, echt! het moet een foto van jezelf zijn
.....verwerk grote cijfers (liefst jaartal, datum) op het project

Succes en veel plezier met die ene foto zoeken...
Jaren 80?
Verknipte pony?
Fout permanentje?
Mooi bruidskapsel?
Experimenteel met kleur?
Tienerfratsen?
Blij met je kapsel nu?
etc....

De kleur roze was geen vereiste maar… De Dutch Dare Babes waren blijkbaar “in a pink mood” !

Uiteraard kan je opnieuw meedingen naar een RAK. Laat je layout of project zien via deze LINK op 2Peas. Graag zien we het ook in een gallerij bij MemoryLane dutchdares@memorylanescrapbooking.net

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Nothing matters, just a good hairdo”

It’s a funny and strange saying overhere! If I’m right it’s from a dutch song. Well, we’ve had some conversations about our histories and fashion and ofcourse hairdo’s! So perfect to turn it into a scrapbook challenge.

.....do it oblique (awry) on the project
.....yes! it must be a selfportrait
.....add big numbers (like dates) to the project

Good luck and have fun finding this photo...
Back to the eighties?
Hairdresser missed it?
Lovely hairdo at your wedding?
Color experiments?
Teenage hairdo?
Happy right now as it is?
etc...

The color pink was not mentioned but... The Dutch Dare Babes were all in a pink mood!

If you want to play along for a RAK, be sure that we can find your project by leaving a comment here on the blog or via this LINK on 2Peas. You can also send your project by email to dutchdares@memorylanescrapbooking.net. All the dares will then be placed in a special gallery on the Memory Lane website.
